Cool Apple Blog

Saturday, November 11th, 2006

I am always looking for new technologies and web sites that will help my life run smoother. I have a big list of blogs and sites I check every day, just to see what is going on. The other day, I ran across a new mac blog that covers cool new sites that work well with macs, and I had to add it to my list.

MacShout covers just about everything to do with Apple, macs and iPods, but their focus is on new utilities and web sites that make your life easier. If I am not asleep, I am on my computer, either working or playing. MacShout is my kind of site, their life seems to be the same as mine, and they spend a good portion of their time finding those new sites that will help me get my work done faster, and give me a little spare time to do something other than work or sleep. Who am I kidding, I will just sleep more!

If you are looking for apple rumors, new mac announcements, apple insights, iPod news or cool new technology sites, MacShout is for you.

Jesse James and Choppers

Saturday, November 11th, 2006

Jesse James came to fame building high end custom choppers. He’s been featured in magazine after magazine and has won show after show with his creations of steel. He’s also the star of a popular TV show where he and a team of specialists take regular cars and trucks and make them into completely impractical big boy toys.

So, what’s with him opening a eco-friendly restaurant? Brain Bucket Magazine reports that Jesse James opened a burger joint next door to his West Coast Chopper complex, called Cisco. He named it after his dog. It serves organic food in biodegradable containers and utilizes solar power.

Mosaic Photos

The process of designing a Photo Mosaic is quite a complex one. It’s not as simple as just going into Photoshop and clicking “Mosaic”. The quality finish required is due to a process of gathering a lot of many cell images and a single background image. The background image is then cut into small rectangles which is then analyzed thoroughly to take into account the average hue, colour, saturation and luminance.

Then it’s a point of matching up the cell pictures with the rectangular parts so a contrast is seen. A tint is then applied to the overall picture so you can see the cell images up close but can focus on the background image from a distance. The end result is magnificent when applied correctly. A single image filled with hundreds of memories.

You can see some Photo Mosaic Samples at www.designamosaic.com and maybe you can organise a Custom Photo Gift for you family members or friends.

Ferraris, Lamborghinis, and Supercars

High speed exhilaration is the only thing that comes to mind when you hear the words Ferrari and Lamborghini. These sleek, fast and furious Supercars can corner at very fast speeds without taking the foot off of the pedal.

Ferrari is a name long known for winning high speed races for many years. However, the street cars Ferrari have designed over the years have always been able to turn heads wherever they are driven. There are not too many that can afford one but we still dream about them.

Lamborghini have always been known for sleekness and power in all of their models. The much sought after Lamborghini Countach street car was used as the base for Lamborghini’s racing stint in 1985 with the Lamborghini Countach CVX.

Screen Capture Software, Make Screenshots

Sometimes we can get very frustrated with software, web browsers and applications on our computers and understandably so! What do we do about it? We ring the Help Desk or Support section for the manufacturer of whatever we are frustrated with. Even worse, we ring a friend or an associate and hopefully they can go through the hours of running us through various procedures that has worked for them.

Wouldn’t be much easier if you could use screen capture so they could see the error messages that was coming up on your desktop from time to time? Yes! The easiest way to do that is via Easy Screen Capture 2.0. Armed with this screen capture software we can now take a nice screenshot of the problem and email it to whoever will help us to fix the problem.

What’s great about this application is you can edit captured images and saved to the most popular file types. You can add text annotation, arrows, shapes and other objects to create professional screenshots for inclusion in online tutorials, Word documents, manuals, promotion material, presentations, websites, emails and so on.

Advanced Web Bookmarks

Tuesday, November 7th, 2006

Bookmarking web pages is a good old way of saving valuable information. You will not need to use search engines to reach the hand-picked information which is the most relevant for you. But maintaining bookmarks collection is not so easy task is can be. Browser tools are inconvenient, features-less and the main point ? they are not aimed for cross-browser exporting.

Here comes Bookmark Base ? a special tool for advanced surfers and Internet users. It keeps its own bookmarks vault which is compatible with all popular browsers. It supports all Internet Explorer versions (including IE7), Mozilla browsers (including Firefox 2.0), Opera browser and even K-Meleon. You can import and export bookmarks within all that browsers in any direction. Bookmark Base can import and export XBEL (XML Bookmark Exchange Language) files which gives user an ability to use any other bookmark managing tools which supports XBEL.

Bookmark Base can check bookmarks for validity and mark ?dead” links. Of course you will be able to reorganize collection, add new bookmarks manually and delete them. The tastiest Bookmark Base feature is its portability. It was designed to be deployed on USB drive or iPod to carry your bookmarks anywhere you want. You will be able to synchronize bookmarks between any Windows computers just with a few clicks.

Data Recovery

Any business today should have a contingency plan for when things go wrong temporarily. However, a temporary loss of power could be disastrous if you end up losing all of your records. Just think of the ramifications trying to reconcile accounts with thousands of customers. It would take years to get things back on track.

Other things that can go wrong in a major way is data loss on your hard drives. To ensure you don’t lose any data it would be a wise thing to have Data Recovery Software installed. In fact there is available Free Data Recovery Software from many places online.

If you have Windows XP Data Recovery problems you can recover all files with the recover wizard. Open Backup so the Backup Utility wizard starts by default, unless it is disabled. Follow the wizard instructions to select what to recover, where to recover to, and which optional advanced recover features you want. If the wizard is disabled, click the Welcome tab, click Recover Wizard to start the recover wizard. Follow the wizard instructions to select what to recover, where to recover to, and which optional advanced recover features you want.

Dude, You’re Getting a Zune

Saturday, November 4th, 2006

This morning I ran into some interesting stuff at Zune Scene. Apparently Microsoft has prepared an iPod killer just in time for the holidays. One of the things that got my attention was the large variety of zune accessories available at launch, and the cool looking zune case options. Zunescene has also posted 2 interesting graphs. One shows the percentage of iPod owners who indicated they will buy a zune, the other shows year over year iPod sales in a slump.

iPod Owners Who Say They Will Buy Zune

Currently Apple dominates the MP3 player market, but after the apparant success of the XBOX i’m starting to think the Zune MP3 player may have a chance.

UK Student Portal

Well here it is. The very best Internet portal for students in the UK. What does this portal have to offer? For starters, a UK student can browse the student gallery with the option of uploading your photo. Then you can browse through the member list and use the numerous amounts of filters available to find people of a certain genre. An excellent tool on this site is the blogs section. Just about everyone has a blog these days and it is here where you can skim through some interesting ones.

If you are not interested in student’s articles then just some hot gossip may be in order in the forums section. Or you can rate students photos, make photos battle each other, vote on several polls or belong to one of the many groups. You might have something to sell or want to buy something. Then the classifieds section is for you.

Some students have already created some fun images, videos and flash games. Feeling brainy? Test your knowledge in the quiz section. Visit the huge selection of music videos or look up the next events happening in your area. The UK student portal is a must have bookmark in your browser.
