About Prepaid Phone Cards

Wednesday, February 28th, 2007

Calling card industry has exploded into a four billion dollar per year business in just a decade with an estimated 500 million cards sold annually. The cards can be purchased in most stores - gas stations, bookstores, convenience stores or supermarkets. You can also purchase them online.

The price per minute is usually featured prominently on the card and its advertising. However, the price per minute does not necessarily reflect the best rate. There are several surcharges that can be added to the cost of a call. In fact, the general rule is that the lower the per minute charge, the higher the surcharges. Some cards have a large connection fee that is charged for each call. This connection charge alone is enough to bring the actual per minute cost much higher. Another surcharge that comes as a big surprise too often is the pay phone surcharge. This is a charge as much as 50 cents more for each call made from a pay phone. Lower price per minute is often the marketing trick to you to buy the cards. The surcharge for international call can be as high as $3.00 per call. Other surcharges include “taxes”, which can be as high as 25% and a weekly maintenance fee. The weekly maintenance fee can sap the remaining minutes in your card if you do not use them quickly. Another hidden charge is rounding.

The way to select prepaid phone cards is to have a good understanding of how you are going to use the phone, and where and when your calls are going to be made. For example, cards with low per minute rates and high surcharges are usually better for calls that run from 10 to 15 minutes or longer. If your calls generally run less than 10 minutes, the high minute, low surcharge car is better. A prepaid phone card is a tremendous advance in communication, and cheap prepaid phone cards can save much money in emergencies or while traveling. Most cell phones won’t work in foreign country. The prepaid international phone cards have brought the world closer together. It has made communication better and safer, but do not be afraid to shop around for the right card.

TestFreaks is a new site that are launching soon but they are up in some sort of early beta version at the moment. Testfreaks will collect all reviews for popular consumer electronics and fun gadgets. At the moment you can find some digital camera reviews, camcorder reviews, mp3-player reviews & TV reviews. There seems to be a lot more to come so I hope they will make a good sight in the end.

How to be Funny

Monday, February 26th, 2007

The core of humor is what I call the 2-of-6 rule. You need at least two of the following elements in a humor piece if you want to know how to be funny:

Cute (as in kids and animals)
Naughty
Bizarre
Clever
Recognizable (You’ve been there)
Cruel

You can check for yourself that whenever something is funny it follows the rule. And when something isn’t, it doesn’t.

One of the reasons comics are such a popular form of humor is that they often get the cute part automatically. Calvin and Hobbes is widely considered the best comic ever, but the few times it featured the parents doing the main action, it fell flat. Whenever it combined Calvin and Hobbes (both exceedingly cute), with some witty dialog (clever), a dangerous wagon ride (cruel), Calvin acting like a typical kid (recognizable), and thinking about adult philosophy (bizarre) it fired on 5-of-6 humor elements, which is virtually unheard of. Knowing how to be funny and when to deliver the jokes is an art which can be learnt progressively.

The only other humor tricks worth noting are:

1. Write simple sentences that are easy to read. Complex sentences with big words kill humor.
2. Use funny sounding words when you can. (Yank is funnier than pull).
3. All humor is about people. You can’t make humor about concepts or objects.

Now go forth and be funnier. You have no excuse.

eHarmony Dating

Sunday, February 25th, 2007

If you haven’t seen commercials for eHarmony, you must not have a television. eHarmony is an online dating website that matches men and women based on their 29 dimensions of compatibility. Their television ads generally include the story of a smiling couple that found one another on the eHarmony website. You may have a few friends who tried eHarmony out with good results. Maybe it is time to give eHarmony a try yourself.

Before you sign up with eHarmony, do a little research. Ask you friends for their best eHarmony advice. Search the Internet for eHarmony tips and promotional codes. If you can’t find a promotional code, play hard to get. Sign up with eHarmony, but don’t become a paying member. Over time, the offers to join as a paying member get better and better. You might also try to send them an e-mail asking for a better offer. Try for a 3 month membership for the price of one. eHarmony is a good service, but that doesn’t mean you have to pay full price.

When you start your eHarmony adventure in earnest, try to approach all your eHarmony matches with an open mind. Most of all, have fun exploring the possibilities for romance.

The Finance Forums

Wednesday, February 21st, 2007

There are plenty of places online to discuss personal finances, but one community I’ve recently grown fond of is The Finance Forums. It’s only a small community, but it’s got an active and friendly member base and there’s no fear of flaming, no matter what issues you discuss.

Key areas I’ve found helpful especially include the debt management section. Check out some really good advice there when people are posting debt problems. The general finance section is also very good, and one of the busiest areas - it covers a lot of interesting subjects, such as generally home book-keeping, to teaching kids the value of saving money.

As I recently moved house I found comments on the mortgages board really helpful - I still made sure I talked to a mortgage broker before getting my first mortgage, but at least I could ask people about the confusing terminology about mortgages. That way, when I sought professional advice, at least I’d gotten a primer in the basics of the subject.

I’ll be looking out for more financial forums as I need them, but for the moment at least I’ve found a nice little community I can feel safe about asking complicated questions on.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic - Best soccer player in the world?

Tuesday, February 20th, 2007

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is today one of the best football players in the world, he might be the best one but most people still rank Ronaldinho as the number one football player and Ibrahimovic as number two. Another big contender for the titel of the best soccer player in the world is Cristiano Ronaldo. Zlatan has been receiving a lot of praise from both fans and reporters lately because of his success in the Italian league with Inter Milan. We hope that Zlatan’s current form will continue and that he will also return to the Swedish national team soon as Zlatan Ibrahimovic is really missed in the swedish soccer team. Ibra has had a great career so far and as he is still young we have not seen the last from him in the football world.

Bard Composix Kugel Mesh Hernia Repair Patch Recall

Monday, February 19th, 2007

If you had surgery that included hernia repair, it is likely the Composix® Kugel Mesh Patch was used to repair ventral (incisional) hernias caused by thinning or stretching of scar tissue that forms after surgery. If you are suffering any unexplained or persistent abdominal pain, fever, tenderness at the implant site or any other unusual sympton, it is advised you seek medical attention or contact your hernia surgeon or the hospital where their hernia repair surgery took place.

According to Johnson Law Firm attorney Steven Johnson patients and/or doctors have not been adequately notified of the recall of these defective hernia mesh repair patches. The manufacturer Davol is accused of inadequate testing of this product. It is claimed the “memory recoil ring” can break under the stress of placement of the large sized products in the intra-abdominal space. This can lead to numerous complications including infections, bowel perforations and/or chronic intestinal fistulae (abnormal connections or passageways between the intestines and other organs).

Steven Johnson says “We have clients from across the United States who suffered complications after being implanted with this defective device. The manufacturer has not adequately notified patients or doctors of the recall of these defective hernia mesh repair patches. We are representing clients in lawsuits against the manufacturer of these defective Hernia Mesh Patches. We intend to seek every measure of damages allowed by law for our clients in these cases and we will hold this manufacturer accountable.”

If you or a loved one has had a hernia surgery and received a Bard Composix Kugel Mesh Patch then please call the Johnson Law Firm office toll free now at 1-866-374-0338 to discuss your legal options. You may be entitled to medical monitoring and compensation from the manufacturer.

It seems that everyone is getting themselves into debt these days, or if they’re not getting into debt, they’re talking about it! Finding decent and useful debt advice is really difficult, as you’re not sure who’s giving the right advice.

You can imagine that banks are not the best people for giving advice due to the amount of money they make from loans, credit cards, mortgages, etc. So for some impartial debt help, its worth looking at a debt advice discussion forum. Hillary Clinton T-Shirts

Friday, February 16th, 2007

After browsing around for some good political shirts for the next elections, I came across a site featuring one of the more popular candidates in a rather quite appealing design. The Hillary Clinton T-shirts I’m talking about are the newest style of the old homeboy designs made popular in the past few years. For the people not interested in Hillary, all the other main people running for president were also created in this same style. Anyway, 2008 will surely be an interesting year.
